SHIPYARD HISTORY

DRASSANES DALMAU is a family business. It was founded in 1963 by Mr. Josep Dalmau, and started working in glass fibre reinforced polyester in 1972.

The business's main activity is in building any type of glass fibre polyester boat, based on prototypes commissioned by clients.

The following product types are built:
a)      Sea-cats or ferries up to 40 m in length for passenger services.
b)      Boats for all kinds of commercial fishing.
c)      Small boats for various jobs (under 15 m), such as port services.
d)      And various glass fibre reinforced polyester items such as lobster farms, fruit containers and van lining for the transporting of fish, among others.

Annual production is ten boats classified within the "a" and "b" groups, and several boats under "c" classification, along with several items described under "d" classification.

At the moment Drassanes Dalmau employs 25 full time staff. There is also indirect work which makes up approximately 50 extra workers, which is very important considering the complexity of ship building. There are a variety of contracted companies involved in that ship building: carpet-fitter, mechanics, painters, blacksmiths and draughtsmen among others.

The business has been developing for many years now. The number of boats commissioned is increasing sharply thanks to a reputation that has been built up in the nautical sector. There are many requests for boats.

The company's premises currently cover 4,500 m², in three warehouses at Arenys de Mar.

In this moment Drassanes Dalmau is in process to obtain ISO certification, because the outside selling are increasing lastly.
